This thread is for speculation of possible Ruby and Sapphire remakes. Note that such remakes are speculation only at this point in time. You may dicuss the posssibility of them here and what features may be included.

I think that the chance of R/S remakes...could really be 50/50. Meaning, I think Nintendo would possibly want to put it on the 3DS; instead of the normal DS, such as Black and White.
Though, if hints are also taken...
There was something brought up on BMGf one day -- the fact that Fennel seemingly researched Pokémon's dreams. Now, if I remember correctly, someone who worked at Devon Corp in R/S/E was also researching their dreams. I don't know if this could be taken as a hint, though the user who pointed this out does have a point.
Either way, I think that the remakes will happen; possibly for the game's tenth anniversary (November 21st, 2012)

As for the features: I'm hoping something similar to the C-Gear is in these games; or an updated version of the Pokénav (Pokémon Navigator). At the moment, this is really all I can think of.

Thats interesting. Many people talk about this, what I think is that it was a hint to the Dream World in Generation 5. They couldve had that concept for a while, but didnt actually apply it till much later. Note that the Pokemon Shellos was supposed to actually be in Gen 3, but was included in Gen 4 instead. I personally feel these remakes ought to be on the 3DS.Hoenn in 3D would proably be awesome.

Also next year in Japan marks Ruby and Sapphire's 10th anniversery. This presents an oppurtunity for them to revisit Hoenn for the 10 year anniversary if R/S. If they chose to follow this timeline, the remakes are well underway and would probably be announced either late this year or early next year.

As for the Pokenav:They could make a combiation Pokenav and C-gear. That would be cool.

A C-Nav or Nav-gear would be cool. xD

I want secret bases (Not the lame Sinnoh kind), Pokemon following you, etc.

What if they made like a Repel that only works in water, since Hoenn has a lot of it? It would either be a lot cheaper or last a lot longer. I think it would be nice, and would make people complain less.

God I love Hoenn, and its Pokemon are awesome too. I believe they will make these games soon, and Im really excited.

That is true.
And, to be honest... I honestly didn't actually know Shellos was originally meant for Gen 3 until a while back. xD It is possible that they had DW ready at the time, but did want to wait a bit before releasing it.
Agreed. Hoenn would look pretty good in 3D, especially the events in Sootopolis City, if they decide to put these events in the remakes, as well.
Recently, Nintendo has been hinting at a Pokémon game for the 3DS (saying that one is in development, if I am correct)... and if Nintendo possibly wanted to get them out for its tenth anniversary...well, I'm hoping they'll be one of the games for the 3DS.
I agree. A C-Gear and PokéNav combination would be pretty cool.

I'm also hoping that Secret Bases are re-added, as well as the Pokémon following you. It would be pretty awesome to see that feature again.

I think a Repel that only works on the Water would be nice. It most likely would make people complain less, since if I am correct, multiple people at the time of R/S's releases said that they didn't bring too many new features to the table.

I see these happening within a year or so, for its anniversary, like SC said.

I honestly don't see why that would be necessary. If someone is complaining about the price of Repels in the game, then I would question their priorities. At any rate, I would gladly invest in some Super Repels to get rid of the Tentacool/Wingull spam. I do that in every game anyways, so I can explore in peace if I want that.

Speaking of water, I want some variety in the pokémon at sea. It's not at all fun to meet the same pokémon, especially when they focus so much on water. This was one of the biggest problems I had with Hoenn, and if they just keep the encounter rates as they are, they are wasting potential. Then again, there's a limit to what potential you can get from just sea. It's the sea that makes Hoenn the worst region in my eyes (that plus the extremely gimmicky towns of course), so at least improving it would be much obliged.

This timeline makes sense. Like it or not, GF/Nintendo has developed a pattern with these releases of remakes. They could choose to break this pattern if they wished, and include R/S remakes with Gen 6, but the 10th anniversary seems too perfect a time to release them. Id like to see Pokemon following feature to return as well, only tweak it so you can choose which Pokemon to be out or not at all. Id like to see anoption where you can find secret bases in game of someone you've traded with( over Wi-Fi or IR)

Its not that, people just complain about how Hoenn has an annoying amount of water a lot. Its not at all necessary. Its just a minor way to make navigating the water less annoying. And extending the water repel length maybe 3x would probably be best.

Now the I think about it, you do have a point. With the large quantity of water Hoenn has, a bigger variety of Pokemon would be nice.

Well, I would say they have every reason to complain when both the surroundings are bland and the pokémon you meet is even worse. But I have to repeat, what point is it in adding an item that already exists just for some small benefit. I would rather invest in Super Repels anyways, I can use them no matter where I am, not just on the ocean.

If Gamefreak takes the same approach as they did with HGSS, I can't say I'm very optimistic about the chances for change in the pokémon-department. Let's not hope they take this approach at least regarding this.

It was just a small example I thought up quickly. I mean, there are many things that can be done to make Hoenn appeal to more people. I cant think of any good examples at the moment, however. Thats largely due to the fact that I have no problem with the region and dont think theres a whole lot that absolutely needs to be improved.

Exactly. I really don't like how there are the same pokes everywhere.
I would love to see Pokemon that don't like in water able to be found in
shallow water, like they are going for a swim or something.

Of course, and it all ends up with our different views on the Hoenn region. I'll be honest, I don't really like Hoenn. Mostly because of way too much water that's simply just in your way with adding nothing at all, and the gimmicky towns just don't have a real feel. I doubt the last will be fixed (then again, a lot of people don't want it "fixed" either, so it's a moot point from my side), but they can at the very least make the sea a bit more creative than just water, rocks and Tentacool/Wingull, because that's what I get from it, at least after you're done with the trainers.

I'm also indifferent towards adding newer evolutions to Hoenn pokémon in the games. Then again, there's a bunch of Hoenn pokémon that could use an evolution. Perhaps gen VI...

I wouldn't mind evolutions too.

But these are remakes we're talking about. Did FR or LG introduce new pokes?
Did HG SS? nope. We can still hope the 3rd version of B and W will have some evos for old pokes but I doubt it. It might introduce pokemon evos for gen V pokes that's all.

HGSS did include some pokémon that evolved by a specific move. They could have excluded those, but they didn't. I think the Hoenn dex could use some of the already existing evos, but there are Hoenn-pokémon that could very much use an evolution. However, I was thinking of already existing evolutions in the first place. Not that it matters too much though.

In addition, it builds upon the notion the the remakes will come out in gen V. This again builds on two earlier examples. That's not enough to build a pattern on. I'm more inclined towards the remake coming out in gen VI if they were to come out at all. I get the feeling that the fanbase sometimes want remakes as much as brand new games. At the very least, remakes should be spaced out. There was a significant gap between FrLg and HGSS, if the gap were to be shortened, I'll start to worry. It's not too unlikely that the fandom will start speculating in a DP remake if RS is remade. What am I talking about, it's almost certain, at least some will.

Considering that gen III is the fan favorite, it's to be expected that there's a notion towards remake. I wonder if gen III fans would go against a gen IV remake like I think gen II fans are generally not too positive against a gen III remake? After all, once we've had our game, remakes doesn't seem too attractive. I think this influences at least me somewhat.

What legendaries should be in the remake other than the obvoious( the Weather Trio and the Regis) Idlike to see Jirachi have an ingame location as well as having Birth Island, Navel Rock,Faraway Island and Southern Island included. When all those are included actually alot of legendaries are incuded:
Groudon
Kyogre
Rayquaza
Regice
Registeel
Regirock
Jirachi
Deoxys
Lugia
Ho-oh
Mew
Latias/Latios

This is interesting development in the R/S remake:
http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Masuda_to_%22consider%22_Ruby_and_Sapphire_remakes

Masuda is basically Acknologing that the Pokemon Fanbase wants these games. Ive seen many people getting excited that this is confirmation of an R/S remake, but I dont see it that way. However this points to the fact that these games will probably be made or are in the very least the beginning of development in this point. The point is GF would be mad not to make these games happen because of the profit it would bring them.

What people are saying about that is that its as good as confirmation as we can get right now. Straight from Masuda himself is a really good sign. The way he says it though dosent really say " this game is being made" This could just be people freaking out over a mistranslation. This is not an official announcement as of yet, but simply hints at the possibility of a future announcement. Ive read that Masuda really likes Hoenn and that the region is close to his heart, which is a good sign too. Personally at this point Im taking it as a "probably will happen"

Edit: the tweet was mistranslated aperently the real translation courtesy of bluesun mentions no remakes at all. This seems more like the fandom blowing things out of proportion as usual. Thats not to say remakes will never happen just not at this time.

Yes its easy to get excited about it. The way I see it now is they'd be crazy to not remake R/S. Im sure Masuda has gotten alot of these fan requests in the form of tweets, emails, letters etc asking for an R/S remake so maybe we will see the game sometime. I wouldnt get too mad if we dont see them on the 10th anniversery even though it seems like a good time to release them. I still think there is a chance Gen 6 is first. Remember right after Diamond and Pearl were released Game Freak worked on Black and White, HGSS and Platinum all at once. Theres a high chance Gen 6 is in the beginning of development. They can have several projects going at once. One of these may be an R/S remake. Right now this is still speculation only. The Pokemon fandom really needs to stop jumping at everything Masuda says and take stuff with a grain of salt.

If you were the director of a video game company, would you reveal secret projects you're working on? If anything, RSE should be ported, little resources wasted, people would still buy it and it would make RSE "available" again, since that is used as an argument to remake them.

But yeah, this got blown way out of proportion though.

(I would certainly buy an Emerald port though)
